   1) Adoption of doorstep school.

  SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME  
 
 
 
   1) The School Health Programme was started by the Dept. of Paediatrics, DYPMC in the year 2003.
  2) Team of Paediatricians is regularly visiting various schools of Pune District.
  3) School children are being screened for:
   

a) Growth and Development.
b) Nutrition.
c) Immunization.
d) Infectious diseases.
e) Refractive errors.
f) Various other systemic disorders.
g) Personal hygiene.

  4) Diagnostic facilities and treatment was provided wherever necessary.
  5) Child Guidance clinic and Adolescent Counselling programme conducted.
  6) Awareness regarding HIV/AIDS and sex education talks were delivered.
  7) Health education talks and street plays were organized.
  8)

Blood Pressure changes in adolescent age group during routine school and prior to examinations were studied.

a) D.Y. Patil Public School, Pune (Pimpri).
b) PCMC (Municipal Corporation) Schools, Pimpri-Chinchwad.
c) Jain Sanghatana High School, Pimpri.
d) Ammunition Factory School, Kirkee.
e) Women's Welfare Foundation School, Kirkee.

 
 
 
  Department of Psychiatry  
  Community Services:  
 

Throughout the year regular camps are conducted in rural areas to extend services to the rural needy population.

 
     
  Awareness Programme:  
 

On the occasion of World Mental Health Week - 2006, the following activities were conducted

 
 
    

Lectures by Psychiatrists were arranged for general population addressing various topics like Symptomatology and causes of Mental illnesses, Substance related disorders and management of various Psychiatric disorders.

 

A Marathi Movie "DEVRAI" based on Schizophrenia was screened for students and doctors of the Institute.

 

Poster Presentation on various aspects of Mental illnesses was organized by the Department for general population. Posters were made by students, interns and resident doctors. It was well appreciated by beneficiaries.

  B. DOTS Quiz:  
 

A quiz competition for general practitioners in Pimpri Chinchwad corporation area was organized with the aims of sensitization of private practitioners and promotion of DOTS.

Pimpri Chinchwad city TB control society and Department of TB and Chest Diseases, Dr. D.Y. Patil. Medical College jointly organized this program.

   
 
 

 

 
 

The whole area was divided in 5 zones - Kalewadi, Bhosari, Chinchwad, Pimpri, Nigdi. All the practitioners were invited to participate in respective area. Then there was a preliminary quiz round in each zone. The participants were asked question on predefined topics. The zonal winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- and runner up Rs. 3000/-.

 
     
  C. Doctor's Pune-Nagpur motorbike Rally to NAPCON:  
 
 
 

In 2006, Chest Department, Government Medical College, Nagpur had undertaken the responsibility of organization of NAPCON-2006.

The Distance between Pune and Nagpur is about 750 Kms and the route covers almost Maharashtra. We therefore planned to attend this conference by motorbike.

The institutions like Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Tuberculosis Control Society, P.C.M.C., Chest Department of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and Stethoscope Foundation Pune were ready to shoulder the financial and organizational support. Maharashtra State Anti- Tuberculosis Association, Cipla and Lupirn also came forward to give their shares.

The Interns are posted to the department for three months. During this time they are trained in rural and urban field practice areas of the department. Besides clinical exposure they also have to complete a community based Project under the supervision of a senior Faculty member.

  Department conducts various camps in the surrounding rural areas to treat the Patients and to bring those patients to our hospital, who needs surgery.
