Orthopaedic Department
started functioning since 1996 and is one
of the busily occupied departments of multi
disciplinary Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College
& Hospital located near Pune-Mumbai
& Pune-Nashik highway and in the heart
of the thickly populated industrial area
of M.I.D.C.

It is equipped adequately
to meet the orthopaedic care - Primary,
Secondary and Tertiary Care of trauma victims
and also of cold orthopaedic problems.

Orthopaedic department
in Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College &
Hospital is functioning independently with
the bed strength of 90, with special emphasis
in super specialty care involving arthroscopy,
joint replacement, paediatric and spinal
surgeries with Critical and Advanced Trauma
Care.

Under the leadership of
Dr. (Col) S. K. Biswas, Prof & HOD,
the department provides a comprehensive
and integrated orthopaedic program for patients,
students & residents.

Department of Orthopaedics
cater to about 120-150 outpatients and has
indoor admission of about 10-12 daily with
operative procedures 15-20 (minor + major)
daily.

Routine care of the trauma
patients: primary, secondary & tertiary
- round the clock.

Basic as well as advanced
techniques of fracture fixation, operative
correction of deformities, paediatric orthopaedics,
orthopaedic oncology, External fixator application
(static as well as flexible modular), including
ring fixator (Illizarov's) for limb lengthening
& deformity correction, Interlocking
Nails for Femur, Tibia & Humerus.

Super speciality procedures
like Arthroplasty of Hip, Knee, Elbow &
Shoulder both Cemented & Non-Cemented
at much cheaper rates than other places.

Arthroscopy - Diagnostic
as well as Operative of Knee, Shoulder,
Elbow & with specialized instruments
also at much cheaper rates than outside.

Spine surgeries: Spine
Problem Care including operative technique
like discectomy, laminectomy, Spine instrumentation
(Harrington Rod, Hurtshill, Mossmiamy) vertebroplasty,
deformity correction.

We have got four professors
& three associate professors, all are
well qualified and vastly experienced with
teaching experience over 20-25 years.

Dr. (Col) S. K. Biswas
(Prof and HOD) has undergone many courses
like : trauma joint replacement and spine
at national and international level. He
is also A.O. & I.G.O.F. fellowship qualified
at Germany and Switzerland in traumatology
and joint replacement. He has been awarded
distinguished leadership by ABI (California,
USA) and nominated man of the year in 1998
by same society for distinguished work in
orthopaedics and rehabilitation. He is pioneer
in total elbow replacement in Maharashtra
& got press applause for the same.

Many of our faculty members
have attended and presented papers and chaired
the session in national & international
conferences.

Few of our faculty members
like : Dr. (Col) S. K. Biswas & Dr.
Suhas Kamble have been invited to deliver
guest lecture in different conference /

& Diploma Students each are admitted.

In addition to MBBS under
graduate training, we also have got PG students
& curriculum for both degree & diplomas
(M.S. & D. Ortho)

In the training of PG students,
in addition to casualty, OPD, WARD &
O.T. training, we stress on continuous training
by lectures, case presentations, seminars
& journal clubs. They are also permitted
to participate in CME, Workshops, conferences,
paper presentation carried out by different
organizations & Institutions.

With the popularity of
our teachers, students from other colleges
also come to attend clinics, seminars &
journal clubs.

To keep up pace with the
updated teaching modalities : we have got
over head projector (OHP), power point presentations

of various operative procedures.
